Very Good
- 1 package yeast
- 1 cup warm water, not hot
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
- one egg
- 2 cups shortening
- poppy or sesame seeds
Dissolve yeast in water in a large mixing bowl, Stir in sugar, salt and half of flour then beat until smooth. Add egg and shortening. Beat in remaining flour until smooth. Scrape sides of bowl and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size approximately 45 minutes.
Grease muffin pans. Punch dough down and turn out onto floured board. Press dough flat, about 3/4 in thick and cut with cutter or may be shaped in cloverleaf rolls. Place in tins and let double. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds.
Bake in 400 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Makes 12-18 rolls.
