Country Water Rolls

Not too good

  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/8 cup shortening
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¾ cup boiling water
  • 3 to 4 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 egg whites

Soften yeast in warm water. Combine boiling water with sugar, shortening, and salt. Cool until lukewarm. Add to yeast mixture. Add the egg whites to your mixture. Add flour. Blend together at low speed with a spoon which is suitable for bread making. Knead well until dough is smooth and shiny for bread making. Place bread in a greased bowl. Turn and cover dough. Allow to rise in warm place till dough is double in size. About one hour. Punch down and let rest for 10 minutes. Shape into round rolls and place 2 ½ inches apart on greased baking sheet. Cover. Let rise until double in size, about 45 minutes. Place large shallow pan on bottom rack and half fill with boiling water. Bake rolls on rack above hot water in oven. 450 for 10-12 minutes.
