- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon grated lemon rind
- 2 tablespoons nutmeg
- 4 ½ cups sifted flour
- 1 cup milk
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and lemon rind. Beat until white and fluffy . Sift flour and baking powder salt nutmeg. Add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Mix well. Roll onto lightly floured board and cut with donut cutter. Fry and hot fat at 365 degrees for three minutes. Drain on paper towels.
Note from Grandma: I would ice with powdered sugar icing and lemon flavor – ¼ teaspoon. Also doughnuts in other sizes. Ice with powdered sugar and cocoa.
