Kathy Lee’s Wassail Bowl

Ingredients for cider. I just slice orange rather than peel & zest.

Dear Laura, I’m glad you plan a nice dinner with friends–and dogs. I expect
Paige to come in anytime tonight, according to when she gets started.
Celia’s will likely come tomorrow as will Craig’s. Your mom is having the
dinner as I am not up to it. Making 2 pecan pies about did me in. I can’t
tell that the med. is helping a lot, but maybe I’m expecting too much. I’m
just not ready to be put on the shelf yet.
I have a recipe I have used a time or two. It was published in a magazine
a few years ago. You can halve or double it–whatever.

1 gal apple cider                 2tsp. grated orange zest–rind
1 orange, peeled and sliced      1/2 tsp. ground ginger
4 (3in.) cinnamon sticks          1/2 tsp. grated nutmeg or
           ground if you like

Mix all ingredients together in a large saucepan. Heat on low.  Bring to
simmer. Serve warm.  This recipe makes 16 servings and is good for Christmas
celebrations. It could be kept warm on low in a crock pot after it was made.
Likely it could be made in one, tho’ I haven’t done it.  Love, Grandma
